Escape the dungeon
TinyKeep is an upcoming action roguelike game with procedurally generated dungeons and a heavy focus on smart monster AI. Explore a variety of environments and battle creatures and bosses as you make your escape to the surface.
What really sets TinyKeep apart is the sophisticated AI system, designed to produce unique monster intelligence that behaves in exciting and unpredictable ways. You can lure monsters into traps, knock over fire torches to set furniture alight and set prisoners free to help you on your way. Enemies will work together in groups to hunt you down, and some will flee from threats. You can also take advantage of monster rivalries and lead them against each other, while you wait behind a corner as the resulting chaos ensues. There are many ways to survive in TinyKeep.
“We wanted to create a game that feels alive, where the dungeon’s inhabitants have their own motivations and needs, and situations are created that have never been seen before in a game of this genre.” says Phi Dinh, founder of Phigames.
The game is currently under active development.
We expect to release it from our own dungeons at the end of September 2014.
History and lore
Many years ago, in an age lost in the mists of time, one programmer called Phi Dinh set to work on creating his dream game – a casual 2D multiplayer roguelike. A simple prototype was lovingly crafted, and he and his friends spent many sleepless nights exploring the depths of the procedurally generated chaos. Thus, TinyKeep was born.
But it wasn’t enough.
Phi felt the game needed something more. He wanted smarter monsters. Better graphics. He wanted a twist on the tired old RPG mechanics that plagued so many titles in the genre. He wanted something that felt fresh and accessible for new players, yet still challenging and full of depth for the old. Ben was recruited to help define the gameplay, and a talented artist was soon discovered. Within 2 months, a proof-of-concept was developed, and the team launched the project on Kickstarter.
On May 31st 2013 at 5:33am, TinyKeep was successfully funded by 802 loyal dungeoneers. At long last, Phi can now finally achieve his vision and make TinyKeep into the game that it deserves to be!
As an upcoming YouTube personally I have been travelling the UK as much as I can to attend events such as Eurogamer (now EGX London) and Rezzed (now EGX Rezzed).
Last year at Rezzed was were I first met Phi and played his game Tiny Keep I was hooked the moment I sat down. In the two attempts I took at the game both I died while being hunted down by hordes of walking skeletons.
My love for this game grew even more still with Phi kindly allowing me the chance to promo his beta build on my channel
I had the pleasure of meeting him a second time at Insomnia 51 where I finally managed to publically complete the Insomnia 51 build because I was one of the first of the day to achieve this I was rewarded with a limited edition Tiny Keep Kickstarter Mug Phi was even kind enough to include this in a blog of his.
